A new sport

Exercising in the house is good, but I feel even better when I get to be out in the sunshine.  I think that this is especially true since our days are still pretty short, and you can get feeling  drab if you don't  get out.  I've wanted a pair of cross country skis for a few years now, and I waited and waited, thinking that I could nab a good second hand pair.  You see them everywhere, but the trick is trying to find the right sized boot that fits in the right bindings.  Often you see the boots, or the skis, but seldom do you see both.  This winter I finally broke down and just bought a new pair.  A friend of mine just got a new pair and she invited me over to try hers out before I bought mine.  Her house backs onto a green space so I did a lap, after which I thought, 'This is crazy.  I can't do this.'  She convinced me to do another lap, and I was starting to kinda get the hang of it.  I'll tell ya, cross country skiing is harder than it looks!

Today was so nice out, and the sun was just waiting for me.  Our house is really close to the edge of town, so I can just walk there in about 3 minutes.  Then I skied to the golf course where I found ski tracks...yippee!!!  It was all great until I tried to ski up a hill.  That was no good because I'd get half way up and then just slide backwards until I was at the bottom.  Don't think huge hill, think like rabbit hill.  Think like gopher hill.  I'm a newbie.  I finally went around the hills.  And I only fell twice today! The snow was quite soft and seemed more slick then the last time I went out.  It meant I could ski faster, but it also meant that I could lose control faster too.

  2. That is one sport I always thought I'd like except I don't live in an area that keeps snow around. I would think your leg muscles are feeling "the burn". Good for you!!! We had a lovely day today and it felt like Spring! Hubby and I spent part of the day outside burning old papers I recently went through. De-cluttering a little at a time and it feels good!
