We have a pond behind our house, and someone is clearing it regularly. It's great to see all the kids skating out there. The Christmas holidays are coming up and it will soon be flooded with families. The middle of the pond is cleared and then there's a track around that. I went skating on the track part while the kids played hockey this week. Wowza, it's been a long time since I've been on skates, but it felt so good. It's great ice and it's surprisingly smooth for being outdoors. Don't you just love the sound of skates on ice?
This week I went to the Siksika First Nations elementary school. Illustrator Ben Crane and Author Victor Lethbridge produced a
children's book. They came out and put on a great program for the kids. I don't know who was more entertained, me or the children.
This week I feel emotionally tired. This morning I put on my fleecey lined pants and went for a walk. What is it about a walk that is so therepeutic? Here's a photo of a bird I took after skating.

That looks like so much fun! I went ice skating at an indoor rink a long time ago and once I got the hang of it, it was fun. However, it was very crowded and a kid that knew what he was doing came whizzing by me and I lost my balance and came down hard on my knees. I had a nice big bruise on one of them. That is the extent of my ice skating. ;-) I'd love to sit on a bench and watch others though!
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me last time I skated outside because outdoor ice can be rough. My toe pick got caught in a groove and I went flying. So now I'm a little scared of outdoor ice.
DeleteI like your pond photo...what lens did you use?
ReplyDeleteMy wide angle 14-24 I believe.
