A few books here, a few books there

The quiet man (my husband) has an addiction.  I knew it right from the start, but didn't think that it would ever be an issue in our marriage...until now.  Today I realized two things 1. This problem will never go away 2. I need to find a solution.

Even before we were married, the quiet man owned a lot of books.  I thought nothing of it.  Who doesn't like books?  I just kept finding shelves at garage sales.  It worked.  For 10 years.

Here (above) is his side of the head board.  This is the neat version, quite often there are books on top the head board also.  Or the rows of books are doubled up.

Above is the photo of our makeshift entertainment area, which is not that anymore because the TV broke a few months ago.  We bought a monster of a TV with our VISA points.  It doesn't fit here.  The book shelves I found at a garage sale.  This space drives me bonkers!

The cupboard here I also bought at a garage sale last summer.  See what's happened?!?  The books are piling up.  sigh.  I didn't show you the area around his desk.  Yep...more books and binders.  It's out of control I tell you.

My plan is to make a ceiling to floor, wall to wall built in style shelf unit.  For most people that would be overkill.  For us it's necessary.  This is the back wall where I would like to build it.

This is an unused and very messy area of our basement.  I used to set up my photography backdrops here.  I don't anymore, and since it's kind of an open space, junk collects here.  Sometimes things are OK until one day you wake up and it's not OK anymore.  Today is that day.  I know that this will be a impossible huge project, but I'm determined.  I also know that it would solve a lot of problems.  So, let the planning begin.

  1. How about libraries? Take it or leave it (leave it in your case) and eBooks? Really no reason to own and store anymore.

  2. I feel your pain! We have books all over the place and the majority of them are my hubby's. I had the keyboard Kindle for a couple of years and had hubby read a couple of books from it. He didn't seem interested, but this year I got a new Kindle Fire and gave him my old Kindle. He loves it!!! He is amazed that he can go online and within 30 seconds have the book on his Kindle. I'm hoping this will stop the influx of more books that we have no more space for. I think that wall will be perfect for the bookshelves you want to build! Try to get him interested in an e-reader. ;-)
